Another day, another successful HCPC fitness to practise outcome
It’s the first day back at school for many today, and as I arrived at my desk after the school run, an email from the HCPC dropped into my inbox.
It contained confirmation that my client, a paramedic, had received a no case to answer outcome from the Investigating Committee panel who recently considered their case.
The allegations concerned prescribing outside of their scope of competence. As is often the case, they had attempted to deal with things by themselves initially; thankfully, when it was time to make a formal response to the allegations, they searched for a fitness to practise specialist and found me. We were able to work on their case together, putting together a comprehensive response to the allegations - my client described it as spot on!
The panel must have agreed, because they dismissed all charges with no case to answer. Interestingly, they also found that my client was not obliged to self refer in the circumstances, despite having done so.
I will do a post soon, I think, on the duty to self refer. Many practitioners get this wrong and refer themselves to the HCPC and other regulators when they needn’t do so, and cause themselves months of anxiety, stress and disruption.
At least for my client, that anxiety and stress is now over.
