End of year thoughts - 2025

So, it’s time for my end of year file archiving, and as I do so, I’m reminded of some of the interesting cases I’ve helped with this year.

Firstly though, some stats. After archiving, I now have 63 live fitness to practise or related cases, as follows:

36 Nurses, 5 Student Nurses, 1 Paramedic, 1 Clinical Psychologist, 1 Midwife, 7 Social Workers, 1 Hearing Aid Dispenser, 1 Biomedical Scientist, 1 Psychoanalyst, 3 Psychologists, 1 Health Care Worker, 1 Dental Nurse, 2 Consultant Doctors, 1 Arts Therapist, 1 Phsyiotherapist.

Included in those are 2 ongoing criminal investigations, 1 MHPS competence process, 1 NHS disciplinary process, 2 PSA appeals, 1 DBS minded to bar process, 1 restoration application, 3 registration appeals and 1 OIA appeal.

Secondly, throughout the year, I’ve had some amazing results. So amazing that a few days ago, I received my third PSA appeal notification this year. Basically, my client’s outcomes were too good!

I’ve had 2 successful High Court Appeals and 1 successful judicial review application. On that third PSA appeal, advice from King’s Counsel is positive, so we’ll see about that one.

Among the many cases this year, I’ve helped:

A doctor with dishonesty concerns around their examinations get onto the GMC register;

A student nurse with conduct concerns avoid an FTP process;

A nurse found to have punched a patient to continue to practise without restrictions;

An ACCA senior manager avoid referral to CIFAS over dishonest expenses claims;

A Midwife at a police interview in relation to a gross negligence manslaughter allegation;

A Nurse with concerns about non-disclosure of second job and inappropriate access to patient records to take appropriate steps to protect their registration.

With all of that, I’ve been in hearings for 80+ days this year.

Every single one of those clients, I’ve spoken to on the phone, had them sign my client care letter, dealt with the AML requirements, invoiced them, worked on their cases, and attended their hearings (save a few where I have had clashes - Mark Millen has helped me with those).

It’s been a pretty good year (according to my teenage son: “I’m cooking”) and I’m looking forward to winning many more cases on behalf of my clients in 2026.

Happy New Year to you!
