Don't give up hope

I received the following by email last week:

"Good morning Marc,

I just wanted to update you on my current situation. After our last conversation, I went online and multiplied my job search. I applied on every single company website I could find, I updated my CV on indeed, CV library and many more....Soon recruiters started calling me from all over. I explained my current situation with the NMC, they managed to schedule several interviews for me. Last week a manager from one organisation I applied for wanted to see me.

Prior to the interview I opened up in regards to my interim conditions of practice, he told me he really appreciated my honesty. When we met up I explained everything that led to my referral, also told him about the incident at [place]. I thought that was it, I will never secure myself a job. But yesterday he phone and said he had offered me the job, I couldn't believe my ears. We made some arrangement, which he will put in writing. The home has three units and there's only one nurse per floor, I will be the second nurse working alongside any one of the nurses, I will be paid on a healthcare assistant wage half of the time and the other half of the time I will have no salary. And once my situation is sorted out with the NMC I will then be paid as a registered nurse. I am fine with all this as long as he helps me through the issue with NMC, which he said he will.

So thanks ever so much Marc, you telling me to go out and multiply me job search was just the kick on the backside I needed."

Although working for free is not the preferred option (proposing HCA rates is a good sell though), this is an example of a nurse not giving up, and consequently putting themselves in a position to get out of the noose of their conditions of practice - in a couple of months we will be able to make an application to remove the conditions, all being well with the new job.

It's tempting to give in to anger and frustration, but these negative emotions do not assist in achieving what you want, which is unrestricted practice.  Instead put that energy into doing more to resolve your situation, whether that be getting another job or working well to get a good reference.  I will do everything I can to help and support you with this - just don't give up hope!
