Beginner's Luck?
Yesterday I introduced my new colleague, Jacqui Baldwin, to the world of the NMC, as she shadowed me on a hearing to review an interim conditions of practice order. The nurse concerned has been subject to a conditions of practice order since November 2017, following a fitness to practice referral by her then employer. She contacted me a couple of weeks ago because she wanted to get the conditions removed and she knew that a mandatory review of the order (they get reviewed by a panel every six months) was due in February. Prior to my involvement she had been represented by her union which sent lawyers to argue her case at previous hearings, without great success. As soon as she instructed me, I set above gathering material to be used to argue her case. By the time the hearing arrived we had a bundle of evidence which I used to support my argument that the order should be revoked. The panel agreed, the order was revoked, and my client and her husband were very happy indeed!
Before long, Jacqui will be helping clients in exactly the same way and we look forward to seeing many more happy faces after visits to the NMC and HCPC.
