Redemption & Restoration

Today I had a hearing at the NMC representing a client in their application for restoration. They had been struck off the register almost 7 years ago for defrauding the NHS of over £100,000, through dishonest claims for bursaries and working when they were not entitled to do so.

I have a particular approach in the preparation of restoration applications and initially this client questioned that approach.  In fact, I have recently parted company with a client who did not want to follow my lead.  The thing about my approach is this though: I have not lost a single restoration application, so I know that it works.  Fortunately, today's client followed my advice and having prepared their case fully, we secured the result that was music to my client's ears - restoration application granted!

I was discussing the various ways to deal with NMC matters, whether they be fitness to practice referrals, registration appeals or restoration applications with one of my client's witnesses, and they asked me how I handle all of the difficult cases I must have.  I told them what I usually tell my clients - it is rare to find a totally hopeless case, and so it is all about taking the right approach at the right time.

Through my client following advice and from a very difficult position, they've managed to redeem themselves and restore both their character and their registration.

It's about 9.30pm now, my client will just be arriving back home and I can imagine the celebration they will be having with family and supporters. It feels good.
